Curriculum Rationale

In Woodlea we understand that every interaction we have with our children is an opportunity to have a positive impact on the child they are, and the adult they will become. We work together to ensure that we support the whole child and work towards developing future citizens who know how to look after themselves, their community and the wider world. We aim to ‘live’ what is learnt and apply it to everyday situations in the school community.

At Woodlea we aim to:

  • provide opportunities for all children to achieve their full potential
  • provide a broad, balanced, exciting curriculum within a caring and welcoming environment
  • foster a ‘have a go’ attitude, where children feel safe to try new things
  • celebrate children’s successes
  • create a school ethos that is firmly based on mutual trust, respect and tolerance
  • encourage caring and thoughtful attitudes
  • nurture confidence, resilience and independence
  • empower pupils to make informed decisions and choices

At Woodlea Primary School we follow a separate subject approach. Links to other subjects are made where relevant. Our intent is that our children receive a broad and balanced curriculum, as it is our belief that each of the subjects are as important as the other, with equal value. The intention is that children should know more, remember more and do more to equip them for their next steps in life and eventually employment.
